  • Sam Marlow : Voice and Songwriting

    About Sam

Sam Marlow is a vocal coach, songwriter and the founder of City Vocal Coach, one of London's leading singing and songwriting studios. He has been helping singers and songwriters find their voice for over fifteen years, working with everyone from complete beginners to artists who have gone on to sign record deals, release music and build real careers.

Sam knows The BRIT School from the inside. He was a student here himself, and that experience, of being a young artist figuring out who he was creatively and what he wanted to say, is something he carries directly into his teaching. He understands what it feels like to be in the room, and that gives him a particular connection with the students he works with.

After leaving The BRIT School, Sam worked as a signed recording artist before moving into teaching. He brings genuine first-hand experience of the music industry into every lesson, knowing what it actually takes to write a song worth recording, to perform under pressure and to keep going when things get difficult.

He is the co-author of the ABRSM Songwriting Grades, a nationally recognised qualification designed to give young musicians a structured, creative framework for developing their songwriting. He has also lectured in songwriting at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP), and his work as a teacher has influenced the careers of platinum-selling and award-winning artists.

At The BRIT School, Sam teaches singing and songwriting. His lessons are built around each individual student, their goals, their influences, their strengths and where they want to go. He is particularly passionate about helping young artists find their own creative voice, not just learning to sing or write well, but understanding what they actually want to say and developing the confidence to say it.

For students, Sam is the kind of teacher who takes your ideas seriously and pushes you to go further with them. For parents, he brings a rare combination of real music industry experience, formal qualifications and a genuine commitment to getting the best out of every young person he works with.
