Study Digital Arts for Games, Animation, Concept Art and Design in South London

If you love creating characters, immersive worlds, visual storytelling or crafting bold graphic design identities, this course helps you develop them to the level the creative industries demand. Our college-level course introduces tools and techniques used by artists in games, animation, film, branding and motion design. At age 16, you'll learn to turn 2D sketches into 3D scenes, and illustrations or branding into motion graphics and interactive content—using the same workflows as professional studios.

At Post 16 you will study for a UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology -Digital Arts Games & Animation (equivalent to 3 A Levels).

Digital Arts at The BRIT School gives you hands-on experience with industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Figma, Procreate, and 3D tools, including Maya, Blender, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine 5. The BRIT school provides access to Adobe and 3D software packages for use at home as well.

You will be based in our dedicated studios equipped with powerful computers, including RTX PCs  and Apple M2 Macs, all featuring dual monitors with drawing screen graphics tablets. We also have DSLR cameras, greenscreen and lighting equipment which can be loaned out to support your workflow beyond the classroom.

You’ll develop skills in all the following areas across the two years:

Industry Opportunities

You’ll gain experience through work placements, live briefs and workshops with leading studios, agencies and freelance creatives in the areas of games, animation, graphic design and VFX (visual effects). Students also enter competitions like BAFTA Young Game Designers and the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Show as well as exhibiting their work at our epic end-of-year showcase in the summer. 

Qualities I Need

You should be a young designer who is interested in technology and the creative opportunities it presents. We want students who have ideas, who are interested in design and who are strong at working both independently and collaboratively. You have to be self-motivated and have an enthusiasm to learn. You will ideally have practice and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Art such as: illustration, fine art, original characters or environments, observational drawings or portraits. This can be traditional or digital.
  • Design such as: graphic design, layout, branding and logos, motion graphics, web or photo manipulation.
  • ICT or design and technology background with an interest in visual creativity.
  • Any other visually creative area such as: traditional or digital animation, stop-motion, 3D in Blender or Sketchup or video editing.

Please note that we teach all software from a beginner level at level 3 and no previous software experience is required. Our goal is to help visually creative young people to develop a robust portfolio showcasing their imagination and talent through a range of industry-standard softwares.
