Acting, directing, devising, writing or producing: whatever your passion for theatre, you will learn how to refine your skills on our Theatre course. You will get plenty of opportunities to perform, develop skills as a writer, study contemporary texts and have the opportunity to develop your directing skills. You will also work to create and produce your own work and be encouraged to watch and study a wide genre of plays. You will work with community groups, learn about political theatre and attend trips to the theatre to see a variety of work. Plus theatre alumni will visit for masterclasses and talks to inspire and mentor you throughout the course. 

At Post 16 will you study the UAL, Level 3, Extended Diploma in Performing Arts in Theatre (equivalent to 3 A Levels).

This course focuses on developing your skills and knowledge in all areas of performing arts. Education happens outside of the studios too and education happens outside of the studios too and you will also undertake research by going on trips for deep learning and understanding of play texts. You will experience and be inspired by a host of industry speakers from across the industry including award winning writers, actors and directors. Visitors in the past have included Katie Mitchell OBE,  Eric Abrefa. Hannah Onslow, Tuwaine Barrett, Ruby Stokes, and Cush Jumbo OBE and Blake Harrison.

At the end of your course you will be equipped with the practical skills to join the professional world of theatre or continue your education and training. 

Industry Opportunities

There are a variety of productions each year presented by the Theatre department, so you will have many opportunities to get involved in a performance. These include: 

  • Year 12: Write, direct and perform brand new plays at New Wimbledon Studio Theatre
  • Year 12: Perform a Shakespeare Season on outside stage
  • Year 13 Common Ground Season of playtexts
  • Year 13 Springboard Season of devised work at Brixton House
  • Year 13 Theatre Showcase at the New Diorama
