At Post 16 you will study for a UAL, Level 3, Extended Diploma in Performing Arts in Dance (equivalent to 3 A Levels).

Ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary – whatever your dance style, you can learn more about it with us. From perfecting your skills in technical training to letting your creativity run wild in choreography and improvisational classes, our dance courses are designed to nurture your existing skills and lead you to experience dance in a way you have never imagined before.

The six fully equipped dance studios are always bustling with activity, and each of them has hifi facilities with iPod connectivity, TV, laptops and projectors, plus mirrors.

You will learn a range of dance techniques, performance techniques and the theoretical aspects of the art.  As well as spending time focusing on perfecting your dance abilities you will also learn additional skills in singing, physical theatre and the business side of the industry. You will also perform regularly in our theatres as well as within the community, through professional visits, theatre trips and workshops.

During the course students will develop and refine their performance skills through rigorous dance training including Classical Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Street Styles and Jazz classes. Alongside exploring a range of professional works and practitioners through choreographic and improvisational tasks to deepen their knowledge and expertise. This vocational course requires students to use research to inform their own creative ideas, problem solve, collaborate and produce work for performance. Students can expect to work alongside other Strands including Music, Film and Media Production and Production Arts to develop their appreciation and awareness of how the performing arts industry operates.

What Qualities Do I Need?

  • You should be passionate about dance and have a talent for it.
  •  It is desirable that you have had previous dance experience.
  • You should also have good timekeeping and have a reliable and determined character.
  • You will need to be motivated and proactive in their approach to learning and their development.
  • You will need to be reliable and curious to engage in new ideas to develop their technical and expressive skills.
